Texas has very restrictive spousal maintenance laws. To qualify, the marriage must have lasted at least 10 years AND the requesting spouse must be unable to earn minimum self-sustaining income, OR domestic violence must have occurred, OR the spouse has a disability. The amount is capped at the lesser of $5,000 per month or 20% of the paying spouse's average gross monthly income.
