Our Mission

Divorce is among the most stressful life events. Financial uncertainty makes it harder. AlimonyCal gives people facing divorce a clearer financial picture before they sit down with attorneys or mediators. We believe clear information should not depend on whether you can afford an attorney from day one.

How We Build the Calculator

We research each state's statutes, published case law, and common court practices. For states with statutory formulas (California, New York, Illinois, Massachusetts, Colorado), we implement those formulas directly. For states relying on judicial discretion, we build weighted models. We also include the AAML (American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers) formula as the "average" benchmark — a widely-used guideline across the legal profession.

We update regularly as laws change. Family law evolves frequently — always verify with a licensed attorney in your state.
