Disingenuous, or just clueless? You be the judge.

On today’s Morning Joe, New York Times reporter Nick Confessore, apropos of Michelle Wolf’s line about Aunt Lydia and Sarah Huckabee Sanders at the correspondents’ dinner, said:

“Mika, actually the joke was about lying and not her looks. I think the reference to Aunt Lydia was a reference to the character on that show. That’s my opinion.”

Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski recognized the line for what it was: a crude insult about Sanders’ looks.

After an image of Aunt Lydia was displayed, Scarborough asked incredulously, “you tell me if this was just about her personality and character, or how she looked?” Added Mika: “an actress who’s dressed to look drab.”

Note: for the record, here was Wolf’s exact line: “We are graced with Sarah’s presence tonight. I have to say I’m a little star-struck. I love you as Aunt Lydia in The Handmaid’s Tale.”

All we need to know about the reliability of New York Times reporting is reflected in Confessore’s “opinion.”
