Joe Scarborough wants a “regulation” to be adopted that would force Facebook to inform readers of “lies” contained in Republican Facebook posts.
Said Scarborough this morning:
“As we’re talking about how 55% of Americans get their news from Facebook, and we talk about regulations that need to be put in place, there should be a threshold where they have to send out a blast to every Facebook subscriber that got these false stories [from Republicans] that the story they got was a lie.”
This is madness. Who would Joe put in charge of deciding what was the “threshold,” and what constituted a “lie?” A government agency? The uniformly liberal employees of Facebook? Maybe Scarborough himself would volunteer to be the Facebook Lie Czar.
And of course, the idea tramples the First Amendment, which liberals so self-righteously claim to love and defend.
Scarborough tried to give himself some cover, saying it was a bi-partisan issue that “one day” might affect Democrats. Facebook was around during all of Obama’s time in office. Funny how Joe never called for Facebook to call out the Obama administration’s multiple lies.
And should MSNBC and the rest of the liberal media be forced to send out retractions on the countless lies spewed on their air by Democrats?
JOE SCARBOROUGH: You get Fox News or the White House or Devin Nunes or Paul Ryan to start a lie. The President churns it up, people will do a Facebook posting. It will get millions and millions of shares. And then guess wha? When it ends up being a lie, Facebook doesn’t send a message around saying — you know what? You’ve been lied to again. This is the 42nd consecutive day you’ve been lied to and you’ve been told half-truths. Now you know as we’re talking about how — how 55% of Americans get their news from Facebook. And we talk about regulations that need to be put in place. There should be a threshold. Where they have to send out a blast to every Facebook subscriber that got these false stories. That the story they got was a lie.
